About Us

History

In the summer of 1955 a group of Baytown area Masons decided to form a new Lodge to meet the needs of those members of the fraternity who were shift workers (mainly refinery workers and law enforcement) and could not attend evening meetings.

Permission to create a new Lodge was received from the Grand Lodge of Texas (GLofTX A.F. & A.M.) in Waco and arrangements were made to hold meetings at the Goose Creek Lodge building located on Texas Ave. (Currently occupied by TSO). Notice of the first official meeting was published in the Baytown Sun newspaper Oct. 7, 1955,  and the ceremony officially constituting Baytown Lodge No. 1357 was Held on Jan. 9, 1956, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Houston. Members continued to meet at the Goose Creek hall as a daytime organization for the next 11years until 1967. At that time, Baytown Lodge changed from daytime lodge to an evening lodge and switched meeting locations to the Cedar Bayou Lodge building located on Ferry Rd. 16 years after its inception and holding meeting in buildings owned by Baytown's other two Masonic Lodges, the members of Baytown Lodge No 1357 decided in 1971 to build their own Lodge building. The site on N. Main was selected and members set to work building the one-story metal building. Except for the concrete foundation all the construction efforts were completed by lodge membership. The Lodge meeting are still being held in said building. ~ Source of information was provided by a newspaper clipping of the Baytown Sun Circa early 1990s
